2021, The Hierophant, and Wolves in Sheep's clothing

I’ve spent a lot of time pondering 2021 and how #TheHierophant card (the card for 2021) plays into the collective and it hit my like a ton of bricks.

2020 was a Tower Year (Though the Tower wasn’t the card for 2020). Foundations were/are crumbling and we are seeing just shitty our foundations of greed and selfishness (looking at you #GOP) have been and the outcome of them and how it hurts everybody. It’s no surprise really, when you think about how the Emperor Card can represent forms of government and organizations. When 2019 was ending, myself and others were talking about how 2020 would be a year of clear vision. We weren’t wrong, it just happened in a less delicate way. 

The Emperor is unyielding and stern. They do not let you learn lessons the easy way. In the case of 2020 we saw people grasping at straws trying to find ways to help them feel like they are in control. This came in the form of rioting over wearing a fucking a mask, protesting a free and fair election, latching on to insane conspiracy theories, and other forms of goddamn non-sense. 

All of this is the Emperor’s reversed aspect. These people harnessed the Emperor energy, but in the total and complete wrong way. 

The card for 2021 is The Hierophant. This is because 2+0+2+1=5 and The Hierophant is the 5th card in the Major Arcana of Tarot. 

I am viewing this card through a really unique lens for this upcoming year and there are a few things I am loving about this card and a few things that are concerning to me. We will talk about both. 

The Hierophant is a VERY spiritual card. It depicts a holy figure with two figures kneeling before them. The faith or gender of the holy figure doesn’t matter. What I want to draw your attention to here are the keys at their feet. What are they? They are the keys to enlightenment and understanding on a personal nature. They are keys to your spiritual path. What are you doing with them? Are you putting all of your spiritual eggs in one teacher’s basket? Are you searching and searching for a teacher that resonates and can’t find one? 

Benebell Wen says, in her Masterpiece of a book “Holistic Tarot”: “Upright, The Hierophant speaks of a Seeker who relies on another, a figure of authority or an institution, to define for the Seeker what is right and wrong, and the Seeker is attempting to conform to that definition. In reverse, The Hierophant speaks of a Seeker who defines right and wrong by self-determination.”

Now, there are some of you who will no doubt read this and think of the whole “COVID isn’t real” and “Masks violate my freedoms” fuckers. They like to use terms like “self accountability” and shit to justify their stupid and reckless behavior. We will 100% see more of that in 2021, and it will be worse than it was in 2020. 

We have to remember, the card for the year doesn’t just make it’s upright aspect known, but the reversed aspect as well.

There will be more covid restrictions in 2021 and people will not take to them lightly because of the politicization of masks (wtf) and of the virus. So be ready for that. On the physical plane, we will see more wide spread conspiratorial nonsense about the government and the virus from right wing religious institutions and organizations which will stir up even more shit amounts the already fanatical followers. This will also come from “spiritual teachers” as well.

This card is not one of the gentle shepherd heading sheep, it’s one (in it’s upright form) that speaks to religious and spiritual manipulation.

I am not blind to the fact that there are people who will come across this post that prescribe to the conspiratorial (love that word) bullshit spouted by disgraced ‘doctors’, ‘guru’s’, psychics, astrologers, and the like who will say that this card represents a year will people will be “forced to conform and be all alike and lose their “sovereignty” and shit like that”. 

No. Just no.

This is a year spiritual growth and maturation and a year to see how every spiritual path on the planet, that is centered in the desire to do good and help others, can truly cause a healing to occur.

False Teachers are the name of the game this year as well. I am sad that I discovered quite a lot about people I once respected very highly the spiritual community who went down rabbit holes. Psst, remember how 2020 opened our eyes?

There were people I loved who went off the goddamned deep end into conspiracies, anti-mask rhetoric, the virus isn’t real rhetoric, don’t have fear and fear is the virus rhetoric, and my favorite one “I am breaking free from the matrix” (The Matrix is actually what is causing all of these conspiracy theories to come forward because it wants to test just how discerning we are. It is also bringing the anti-mask rhetoric forward because it’s showing us that these teachers that teach about “5D” and unity, are false because if they cared about unity and everyone else they would actually wear a fucking piece of cloth to protect those around them. The ones that broadcast that they are free from the metric are ones deepest embedded in it.).

These false teachers will grow in number and their influence will be widened. Don’t be deceived because a teacher has the “Swipe Up” feature on their IG stores. Followers don’t mean shit, which is also peak Hierophant card.

In 2021, look at your spiritual path through YOUR OWN experiences. Begin to rely less on other people and their teachings and look at their values. 

Talking about Spiritual Influencers, Teachers, etc, I have a policy that I will not entertain Spiritual Teachers, Mediums, Psychics, Healers, Authors, or the like that do not vibe with my beliefs. That may sound drastic. It just might be. But protecting my energy is also of drastic importance. Now, I don’t shut down anyone with a different point of view, unless it’s racist, bigoted, xenophobic, homophobic, anti-science, anti-mask, anti-vaccine, etc.

Discernment is key in 2021. Don’t let pretty tik-toks, instagram grids, or promises of luxury and grandeur sway you into sharing energy with someone that holds toxic views.

ANYONE THAT YOU LET PERFORM A SERVICE FOR YOU GAINS ACCESS TO YOUR ENERGY. If that person has views that don’t vibe with you, don’t allow them that access.

This year will be no picnic, believe that. As much we hope for change since the Donny the Bunker Bitch is out, there is much work to be done both collectively and individually. Forge your path ahead in your spiritual practice. Rely on your connection that you already have to the divine, and may the force be with us all.
